Truchot, dans son Dictionnaire des eaux min\u00e9rales du d\u00e9partement du Puy-de-D\u00f4me, \u00e9crivait \u00e0 propos des sources: \u00ab\u00a0on en compte plus de quarante qui, sortant des fentes du granit, jaillissent sur les deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s du ruisseau le Couran\u00e7on et qui diff\u00e8rent notablement par leur temp\u00e9rature, tout en pr\u00e9sentant une\u00a0grande uniformit\u00e9 dans la composition.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Actuellement, une dizaine de sources ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9chantillonn\u00e9es avec une temp\u00e9rature variant entre 15 et 57\u00b0C. Les sources, am\u00e9nag\u00e9es ou non, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 prises en compte comme les sources servant \u00e0 la p\u00e9trification.<\/p>\n<p>A l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur et \u00e0 l&rsquo;ext\u00e9rieur des b\u00e2timents servant \u00e0 la p\u00e9trification, les diatom\u00e9es ont \u00e9t\u00e9 collect\u00e9es.
